There is no useful universal price for launching a beauty brand. A stock formula in existing packaging and a custom product with bespoke components are different projects. A responsible budget begins with the product and the business you actually intend to build.

01

Product development sets the starting point

Define the customer need, intended product experience, assortment and target economics. Formula development, sampling and revisions affect both spending and timing. Devices add hardware, reliability and support considerations.

Ask what is included in each supplier proposal and what is not. Testing, packaging compatibility, artwork, tooling, shipping and additional revisions can sit outside a headline development estimate.

02

Packaging is a commercial decision, too

Materials, decoration, tooling, component availability and minimum quantities influence the plan. A distinctive package should support the product experience without making inventory or replenishment unnecessarily difficult.

Explore the tradeoff between custom expression and operational flexibility. The most considered option is not always the most elaborate one.

03

Launch inventory is only part of the cash requirement

Production deposits, lead times, freight, fulfillment and replenishment can create cash needs before sales arrive. Wholesale adds a different payment and inventory rhythm from direct-to-consumer.

Build a working-capital view alongside the launch budget. A product that sells needs a reliable way to remain available; the second production run matters as much as the first.

04

Plan the whole customer experience

Identity, photography, ecommerce, education, content, customer support and returns all belong in the operating plan. Decide which capabilities are needed at launch and which can follow once the proposition is better understood.

Avoid treating every expense as fixed. Model practical scenarios and identify the decisions that can be changed without compromising product quality or customer trust.

05

Agree scope before agreeing a number

A useful brand-building conversation clarifies deliverables, responsibilities, development gates, funding, ownership and how decisions will be made. No universal fee, equity split or timeline substitutes for that scope.
